Breville Bambino Plus: budget for the whole morning routine.

The Bambino Plus puts automatic milk texturing and a quick-start heating system in a compact machine. The key buying question is whether those conveniences are worth the machine price before you add a capable espresso grinder and make sure the water tank can be lifted in your kitchen.

Breville says the ThermoJet system reaches extraction temperature in three seconds, and the automatic steam wand has three milk-temperature and three foam settings. The manual confirms the removable 64-ounce water tank and describes a cleaning cycle and descaling process. Those features may simplify parts of the routine, but they do not make this a push-button bean-to-cup machine: you still need ground coffee, preparation, and regular care.

Where the extra cost goes

The Bambino Plus does not contain a grinder. That makes its $499.95 listing price only the start of the setup budget. Add an espresso-capable grinder, coffee scale if you plan to weigh doses, and any delivery or tax that applies in your location. A bundle may look easier, but compare its exact grinder model and total against buying separately.

Its most visible upgrade over a basic manual workflow is the automatic milk wand. If you make lattes or cappuccinos often and value repeatable, lower-effort steaming, that feature may matter every morning. If you mostly drink straight espresso, or enjoy learning to steam manually, compare the less expensive Bambino and consider putting the difference toward the grinder. This is a feature-based buying framework, not a taste test.

Measure the tank, not just the body

The product listing gives the machine body dimensions, but the tank lifts out from the top rear. Measure the space from counter to cabinet and check the manual's tank-removal motion before placing it under a shelf. Leave room for the grinder, portafilter, cup, scale, and the space where you tamp and clean up. A listed footprint cannot show whether your daily workflow will feel cramped.

Before ordering: measure your counter; confirm the tank can be removed without dragging the machine; choose the grinder; add all setup costs; then verify seller, color/model, warranty terms, and return conditions at checkout.

Read the mixed signals in the ratings

Amazon's rating breakdown at the time checked showed 67% five-star and 14% one-star ratings. That spread is a reminder to read recent low-rated reviews for details relevant to the exact version and seller, especially when evaluating reliability and maintenance. Review ratings are self-selected customer reports; they do not establish a failure rate, and we have not independently tested this machine.

Who should keep it on the shortlist?

Consider it if you want a semi-automatic machine, make milk drinks regularly, value automatic milk texturing, and are comfortable learning espresso preparation. Compare another route if you want the simplest possible workflow, mostly drink espresso without milk, need an included grinder, or have limited overhead clearance for the tank.

Use the setup planner to compare your own budget and measured space. Treat any result as a rough check and follow the exact manual.
